KNITWEAR BY ZADIG&VOLTAIRE
Knitwear is to the origin of Zadig&Voltaire what freedom is to the brand’s attitude. Without it, the brand’s story today, 25 years after its creation, wouldn’t be the same. Without it, the brand’s edginess, a savvy blend of irreverence, elegance and nonchalance, wouldn’t even exist.
Drawing on its unique know-how, Zadig&Voltaire’s knitwear was designed to be soft, like a second skin, with an almost airy knit, and very long sleeves to keep you warm and sit longer than jacket sleeves: this distinctive sign was the first real demonstration of Zadig&Voltaire’s casual style.
The invention of distressed hemlines reinforced the brand’s style with a destroy vibe, inherited from British punk fashion in the 70s. This technique, carried out by hand on high-quality materials like cashmere or merino, just like re-gauging, - to intensify the “worn-look jumper” effect - enhanced the contrast between the precious materials and faux worn look, between the softness when worn and the rebellious attitude that refuses to comply with diktats.
This kind of knit has become an iconic Zadig&Voltaire style. Intarsia or knit jacquard allowed Zadig&Voltaire to bring unparalleled knit quality to the ready-to-wear wardrobe: a way of wearing jumpers which combines comfort and authenticity, without compromise. However, it was through the nobility of cashmere that Zadig found its playground, allowing it to express its style, innovate and propose its own vision of luxury.
