DESIGN IN PARIS

Zadig&Voltaire was founded in 1997 in Paris, and since that moment all the brand’s collections have been designed in our offices in the heart of the French capital. No sketch or silhouette, not even a print, has been designed or drawn anywhere but in Zadig&Voltaire’s nerve centre.

Stylists, designers and the heads of our workshops work hand in hand, led by our Artistic Director Cecilia Bönström, to create the pieces which have made, are making and will go on to make the brand’s success.

Our offices in Paris are our creative space, our home base, our refuge even. In our Haussmannian building dating from the 19th century, located in the 16th arrondissement, we have our own points of reference, light that inspires us and, we must admit, a breath-taking view of the Eiffel Tower.

Over time, to ensure our collections see the light of day, we have had to develop close relationships with manufacturers who are sometimes very nearby, sometimes very far away. In order to offer you the best possible pieces, we have sought out the skills we need wherever they are located, to ensure we can have confidence, whatever the design or level of technical difficulty, and always while promoting production that is as sustainable as possible.

TAILORED PRODUCTS

SPECIALISED KNOW-HOW

Zadig&Voltaire develops its tailored pieces and its coats in Eastern Europe and Portugal. These countries, geographically very close to us, continue to be home to large-scale industry and have considerable know-how of tailored products useful to Zadig&Voltaire. Tailored products refers to suits, coats and all pieces requiring fit and particularly sophisticated finishes. In addition, these pieces are delivered hanging, on hangers, in a lorry. This way their quality is preserved and we avoid crushing epaulettes or damaging embroidery.

BLAZER JACKETS

KNOW-HOW FROM UKRAINE

For many years, 90% of Zadig&Voltaire’s women’s tailored jackets have been produced in Ukraine, due to the country’s high-level know-how of quality tailored products. Since the start of the war, the factories, situated near to the Polish border, have continued to produce, and have done so safely so far. In the current context, we are in regular contact to ensure their good working conditions. We are supporting people by ensuring constant production, as we are aware that both individually and as a country it is essential for them to continue producing their riches.

KNOW-HOW CONTINUALLY BEING DEVELOPED

Our factories in Portugal make our cotton poplin shirts and our men’s flannel shirts. We are also developing tailoring there, both men’s and women’s, as well as some styles of coat. These GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) certified factories have a reputation for excellent finishes and their pattern-making know-how. With our partner manufacturers in Portugal, we are also developing certified organic jersey, on T-shirts and sweatshirts, as well as all of our “photo print” pieces.

KNITS

We produce between 5 and 10% of our knits in Italy. There we develop the season’s more complex pieces, like those in the fashion show for example, for which a lot of contact with the manufacturer is required. The geographical proximity makes it easier to discuss and make visits. The Italian factory we work with is also specialised in recycled cotton and is GRS (Global Recycled Standard) certified.

SPECIFIC KNOW-HOW

COTTON VOILE

India is the world’s second cotton producer behind China and the world’s leading producer of organic cotton, the type predominantly used by Zadig&Voltaire. Traditionally, the fineness of the products woven in India makes its cotton voile much more delicate, likewise for its embroidery, examples of traditional know-how. With our long-term partner we have chosen to create a composition of 73% cotton and 27% viscose, to ensure the resistance of the voile without losing the delicacy of the material, thus obtaining embroidered blouses and dresses with an incomparable finish.

SILK

SPECIFICALLY CHINESE KNOW-HOW

Sourced in China, the silk used by Zadig&Voltaire is spun near to where it is produced, to preserve its quality. Silk is very sensitive to changes in temperature, so this proximity is key to obtaining high-quality fabric. We have worked for a long time with the same factory, whose technical skills we value highly. We have a relationship of trust with our factories, who we consider to be partners.

MILITARY COTTON

CHINESE MANUFACTURERS HAVE REAL KNOW-HOW WHEN IT COMES TO WORKING WITH MATERIALS

They know how to wash cotton in such a way as to give it the finish sought by Zadig&Voltaire. The brand buys “real” military cotton canvas that our partner factories then soften. These factories develop highly innovative and eco-friendly know-how.

OUTWEAR

TECHNICAL FABRICS MASTERED BY CHINA

Waterproof, water-repellent and windbreaker fabrics are perfectly mastered by our partner factories. They develop them themselves and are at the cutting edge of these technologies.

SPECIALISTS IN PRINTING ON VISCOSE

Zadig&Voltaire’s viscose garments are primarily printed. The prints are all developed by in-house graphic designers, in their Paris design offices. To ensure the design and colours of the original print are respected, it is necessary to work with partners with recognised know-how in the area of printing. Made using fibres sourced from sustainably managed forests, the viscose used by Zadig&Voltaire is printed by our partner factories who have inimitable know-how, and with whom we have worked for many years.

KNITS

Approximately 40% of our knitted fabrics are produced in China. This includes virgin cashmere, which comes from Inner Mongolia and which is GCS (Good Cashmere Standard) certified, and merinos, which are RWS (Responsible Wool Standard) certified. When it comes to merino wools and virgin cashmere, Zadig&Voltaire works almost exclusively with partners who are RWS certified and Good Cashmere Standard certified respectively. Our manufacturers master techniques like embroidery, intarsia and feathers, know-how that is exclusive to the brand.

ASSEMBLY

KNOW-HOW ALL OF ITS OWN

Product development is much easier in China as its factories perfectly master assembly, that is to say the techniques required to assemble and finish garments, in particular for large pieces such as outerwear.
