Material care

Zadig&Voltaire's women's wardrobe has one aim, freeing women from constraints so they can express themselves through style without limitations. We love good materials and tell you how to take care of them.

The leather goods

We recommend avoiding exposing your leather item (handbag, clutch, wallet, card case, belt) to a heat source, or prolonged exposure to the sun. In the event of accidental exposure to water, leave your item to dry at room temperature, away from direct light. Avoid routinely overloading your handbag or clutch. To prolong its life, it is advisable to store your leather item in a cotton dust bag. Ideally, when storing your handbag, place tissue paper in it as padding to maintain its shape. In the event of a grease stain, you can use fuller’s earth, which should be left to act at least overnight, then gently removed by hand or with a brush. If your item needs significant restoration, we recommend contacting a leather specialist.

To maintain the shine of an item in smooth or grained leather (lambskin or calfskin), it is advisable to use a leather cream or polish.

For protection from rain and stains, your suede item needs waterproofing before you first use it. Please follow the instructions for use for your chosen waterproofing product. Remember to repeat this operation on a regular basis, as the waterproofing effect diminishes over time. Brush your suede item frequently with a special brush to remove dust and keep the colour bright. Cream or polish should not be used on a suede item.

The cashmere

Zadig&Voltaire cashmere can be hand washed, making sure not to let it soak in water.

However, we recommend washing it in the washing machine, at a temperature of 20°C with a small amount of special wool detergent, according to the recommended quantity on the packaging of your detergent, and without using fabric softener. Washing it in a machine reduces pilling over time. It is not necessary to wash it each time you wear it and we suggest you avoid wearing it several days in a row to allow the material to breathe and recover.

We recommend washing it inside out and putting it inside a pillowcase, without buttons to avoid damaging it, or in a washing net. The spin cycle speed should not exceed 400 rpm.

At the end of the cycle, delicately remove the water from your cashmere garment using a terry towel. Dry flat to avoid the fabric losing its shape. It must be air-dried, away from sunlight and sources of direct heat. It can be gently steam ironed on the reverse, at a maximum temperature of 110°C, taking care not to stretch the material.

We recommend avoiding exposing your leather footwear (boots, trainers, sandals or mules) to a heat source, or prolonged exposure to the sun. In the event of accidental exposure to water, leave your item to dry at room temperature, away from direct light. Ideally, brush your shoes after every wear and let them rest as much as possible between each wear in a cotton dust bag and with shoetrees inside them to let them breathe and to maintain their shape.
